The effects of Water Temperature

Fish are cold blooded, which means their metabolism is strongly influenced by the temperature of their surrounding environment. Fish want to stay comfortable. Consequently, even a small change or break will cause fish to move from one location to another.

In general, this behavior varies for each species and place, so we can not specify an ideal water temperature, however as a general rule we will try to avoid the temperatures abnormally cold in summer and too warm in winter. Remember, look for the comfort zones and you will find the fish.

NOTICE
Our prediction algorithm for water temperature is in development phase. Although in most places we get a value very close to the actual sea water temperature, it may not be accurate in certain areas. Please, use with caution.

Current wave conditions
14 OCTOBER 2024, 8:57 pm
Wave direction - (-°)
Significant height -
Wave period -
Most frequent waves
The most frequent wave height will be about half the height of the significant wave.
Significant height
About 14% of waves will be higher than the significant wave height (about 1 in every 7 waves).
Maximum waves
It is normal to expect a wave of twice the height of the significant wave about 3 times in 24 hours.
This means at this moment you need to be prepared for a wave of - before heading out on the water.
Significant wave height
It is normal for waves to vary in height from one to the next. To give you an idea of the range of waves to expect at a given time, we consider the significant wave height as the average height of the highest third of the waves in the open sea.

The significant wave height provides an estimation of wave heights recorded by a trained observer from a fixed point at sea because we tend to pay more attention to the larger waves.

The following graph shows the progression of the tidal coefficient in the month of October of 2024.These values give us a rough idea of the tidal amplitude in San Carlos, forecast in October.

Large coefficients indicate important high and low tides; major currents and movements usually take place on the sea bed. But bear in mind that this tidal amplitude may be greatly affected by the weather and you should also consult the weather forecast in San Carlos, the wind in San Carlos and the surf forecast in San Carlos before you go fishing.

OUTSTANDING PERIODS
best periods of the year

The solunar periods indicate the best times of day for fishing in San Carlos. The major periods correspond to the lunar transit (passage of the moon over the meridian) and the opposing lunar transit and last approximately 2 hours. The minor periods begin with the rising and setting of the moon and its duration is approximately 1 hour.
